She was born on March 29, 1936 at the family home in Brownsville, Minnesota, the daughter of Everett and Bessie (Rowland) Noble. She married Richard Dean Curtis on August 24, 1957 in Austin, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Wayne Curtis, three brothers, Earl, Everett and Charles Noble and two sisters, Bertha Nelson and Carrie Smith.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Veronica Curtis of Manchester, Iowa and Valeria Herren of Galesburg; four sons, Wendell (Jerri) Curtis of Andover, Wilbur (Terasa) Curtis of Parrish, Florida, Wesley Curtis of rural Galesburg and Happy (Carmen) Curtis of League City, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, John Noble of Crosby, Minnesota; four sisters, Freda Westcott of Oelwein, Iowa, Mary Ann Uecker of Blair, Wisconsin, Alice Henthorn of Blair, Wisconsin and Helen Johnson of Austin, Minnesota; and a friend, Bill Sandidge.
She was a member of New Harvest Church in Abingdon, where she was active in many ministries and served as director of the Mother’s Day Out preschool ministry for 30 years, retiring in 2019. She had lived near Galesburg since 1985 and prior to that had lived in Cambridge and Colona, and also in Missouri and Iowa. She loved to enter her cakes and flower arrangements at the Abingdon Community Festival and the Knox County Fair, where she received numerous Blue Ribbons, Red Ribbons and Best of Show Awards. She also enjoyed doing embroidery. Her love for her family and all children, was only surpassed by her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private services will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
