James "Jim" Edward Cannon
July 30, 1929 - December 9, 2020
James Edward Cannon, 91, of Spartanburg, SC passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 30, 1929 in Whitney, SC he was the son of the late Asa and Nell Cannon.
A U.S. Navy veteran from 1948 to 1952, Mr. Cannon was a longtime employee of Community Cash Stores. He was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed playing the guitar, harmonica and singing. The “Jam” started in back of his home with friends coming over to pick and sing. He was a longtime member of Cannon’s Camp Ground United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruth Kelly Cannon; daughter, Amy Howell (Brian) of Chesnee, SC; sons, Edward Cannon (Sherry) of Cowpens, SC and James Cannon (Candy) of Piedmont, SC; grandchildren, Katelyn and Kellyanne Cannon, Zachary and Harrison Howell, and sister, Margaret Foster of Greensboro, NC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Frank Cannon and sisters, Hilda Gregory, Louise Settle, Sara Burgess, and Mott Hunsuck.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Cannon’s Camp Ground United Methodist Church, 3450 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Joe Blackwelder and The Rev. Jim Johnson. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of visitation the family requests that condolence cards be sent to Mrs. Ruth Cannon.
The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
