He died after the end of WWII, while on a routine training mission over the Gulf of Mexico. His body was never recovered.
Mark had served 14 months overseas, in 27 combat missions over Germany. He was awarded several medals while fighting in WWII. 305th BG, 366th Bomber Squad.

Served as Asst. Director of Operational 1st Air Div., 8th Air Force, ine Eng. Navy P.B.Y.
Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, 3 Oak Leaf Cluster, 2 Belgian Medals (personal), Order of Leopold, Croix de Guerre over Palm.
