Henry's funeral notices were incorrect. His name was printed as "David" in the Contra Costa Gazette, therefore, all other newspapers copied the funeral notice and misspelled his first name. He does not have a brother named David. Judith Palmer, Maintenance 5/26/1923

Henry Bush, Sr was the son of Timothy and Lydia (Newcombe) Bush. He was the husband of Abigail (Norton) Bush. They were married in 1831. Abigail died December 10, 1898. Henry and Abigail were executive committee members of the Westen New York Anti-Slavery Society - along with Frederick Douglas. After September 24, 1850 Henry left his pregnant wife and five children in Rochester, New York (youngest son George three years of age) and headed west to seek his fortune in the California Gold Rush. Abigail became pregnant six times (two children died in infancy) between 1834 and 1846. He arrived in San Francisco in 1851 via the Isthmus of Panama. Abigail and children later joined him. He served during the Civil War.

Brother Timothy Being Interviewed At Mont La Salle 1975
He speaks of an old newspaper clipping which told of the Christian Brothers in 1879 buying 76 acres of property (12 acres of vineyards on it) from Mr. Bush. Mr. Bush also owned a cherry orchard about a mile and a half or two miles away in Alhambra Valley. They also had other property near by - one mile east of the courthouse in Martinez - it used to be at the end of Pine Street.
