Ohio Politician, Hamilton County Sheriff. A native of New York, he was the son of Judge William Goforth. He emigrated to Ohio with his parents in 1788. In 1802, he was appointed by the Territorial Council as Hamilton County Recorder. In 1811, he became the County Sheriff as well as a member of the Ohio State Senate. He died in office from typhoid fever in Columbia, near Cincinnati, Ohio when he was 36 years old. He was buried at the Columbia Burying Grounds, Pioneer Cemetery, at the east end of Cincinnati in Hamilton County, Ohio. His grave was removed to Spring Grove Cemetery on April 25, 1854. He was initially re-interred in Section 110, Lot 23, and was later removed to Section 22.
