Ruby Hughs, 77, of Victoria, passed away with her family at her side on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, 5:10 PM at the home of her son, Travis.

Ruby was born on November 24, 1943, in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Stanley and Martha (Willett) Alexander. In 1963, Ruby married Darrell Hughs in Galesburg. Together, they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Ruby is survived by her husband, Darrell; sons, Jeff Hughs of Victoria and Travis (Debbie Ellis-Hughs) Hughs of Dahinda; grandchildren, Lucas and Olivia; brother Russell Alexander of Decatur; her best friends Bea Hendrick and Donna Engle; and many nieces, nephews, and friends that loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Percy, Curtis, Wayne, Ralph, and Marie; and her favorite dog, Butter.

Ruby graduated from Galesburg High School. She owned and operated her own fitness center. Ruby was also a secretary for a real estate broker, Bright Futures Resource Center and later Carl Sandburg College, where she retired in 2010. Darrell and she were members of Bethel Baptist Church and later on The Oaks Community Church. Ruby volunteered for many church events, participated in countless bible studies and cursillos. Ruby was an avid prayer warrior. Her faith was a staple for her and her family. Ruby centered her life around her family, especially her boys. Even though each claim that the other was her favorite, she went to bat countless times to defend any orneriness they may find themselves getting into. She will be greatly missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 10:30 AM at the Oaks Community Church, 1868 Congregation Rd, Dahinda, IL 61428.
