Bottolf Bottolfsen had owned land in Norway, purchasing in abt 1842, from Jon Olsen Buringrud's widow, then only held the land for about 6 months before selling Buringrud farm to Thron Jacobsen.
Thron bought other land also and sold all by 1850 to pay expenses for the trip to Amerika. It is said that Thron Jacobsen came to the USA the same time as the Bottolfsen family.
Bottolf and Marthe had a son Anders born before 1823 marriage, he died as an infant.
Bottolf Bottolfsen his wife Marthe and their 3 children, Nils, Martin and Karen
came to the United States in 1850:

They embarked at Drammen Norway on May 30, 1850 on a sailing vessel called
Christiane who's captain was Chr. Tofte. The ship arrived at New York on July 16th 1850, carrying 150 passengers.
They then went by steam boat and canal to Millwaukee Wisconsin and by post horses to Beloit Wisconsin.
from Beloit Nils Bottolfsen then walked to Allamakee Co. (Paint Creek twp) Iowa with some other men. He established a place in Taylor Twp, and then later (we don't know how long) his father and mother and sister joined him.
Bottolf and Martha lived with their son Nils the rest of their lives. Nils built a seperate house on his farm for his parents.

Norderhov church book lists the Bottolfsen family to have left the Norderhov parish on April 4, 1850, with destination America.
Church records show:
