Sam was born December 3, 1936 in Charleston a son of the late Calvin and Mary (Kuhns) Swinford. He is survived by one son, Mark (Bridget) Swinford of Crown Pointe, Indiana; twin daughters, Samantha Jo Swinford and Sandra (Adam) Huessner, all of Florida; 3 granddaughters, Helen Swinford, Millie Alejandro and McKenzie Heussner; one brother, John (Nancy) Swinford and one sister Sue (Paul) Sidenstricker, all of Charleston.
Sam was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was an avid golfer and a friend of everyone. His best companion was his Jack Russell dog, Mikie, who was often seen riding the John Deere mower with him.

Samuel Dwain Swinford, 80, of Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Sam was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a member of The American Legion Post 347 where he would attend twice a week. He enjoyed yardwork, playing ball with his dog and spending time with family.
Survivors include daughters Sandra Heussner (Adam) and Samantha Swinford; son Mark Swinford (Bridget); brother John Swinford (Nancy); sister Sue Sidenstricker (Sonny); grandchildren Helen, Milli and McKenzie; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Disabled American Veterans Charity, https://www.dav.org/.
