Robert was a son of Charles Christopher Miller, Sr and his 1st wife who was probably Ann McCaw.
Robert Miller was born in Chester County, SC and was an early settler in Newton County. He and his wife Ann were founding members of Hopewell ARP and baptized five of their eight sons at Hopewell. Robert's entry in the 1850 Mortality Schedule of Newton County indicates that he died in July 1849 of diphtheria. Five of his sons served in the Confederate Army; five of them lost their lives either by combat, disease, or disability. All five sons served in "Murphy Guards" DeKalb County 38th Regiment, Company A. Robert is buried in the oldest part of the Hopewell cemetery; the stone is no longer legible, so the exact spot is unknown. Information about Robert and sons is from "Hopewell Session Records," family tree on Familysearch.com, and from "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, v.4." Hopewell Baptism records of his sons all name Robert Miller as father.
Sons:
1. John W. (1817-1898) buried Prosperity.
2. Robert W. (1822-1862). Married Jane Johnson, Newton County, GA. Killed Spotsylvania, VA 18 May 1864. Burial place unknown.
3. Charles (1825-1862) Killed at Sharpsburg; buried Thornrose Cemetery, Maryland.
4. James Armstrong (1826-1901) Baptized Hopewell 1 January 1828. Buried Prosperity.
5. William Alexander Caldwell (1828-1865) Baptized Hopewell 2 January 1829. Served as 2nd LT, was disabled, and died of disease 20 March 1865 in Newton County; buried Prosperity.
6. Henry Bryson (1831-1862) Baptized Hopewell 22 October 1831. Killed Sharpsburg MD, buried Thornrose Cemetery, MD.
7. David Young (1836-1862) Baptized Hopewell 1 January 1837. Killed Sharpsburg 17 September 1862. Burial place unknown.
8. Francis Marrion: Baptized Hopewell 2 February 1839. Nothing else known after this date; he does not appear on census records in Newton and DeKalb. Possibly died young and buried at Hopewell.

Between 1825 and the official formation of Hopewell Church in 1830 and presence of a full-time minister, three "societies" of family clusters were organized to give these isolated pioneers religious worship and education opportunities. In the third society were the families of Robert Miller, Alex Cowan, S. B. Wiley, and Robert Boyd. These families met in a member's home each Sabbath to study the Bible and Catechisms, sing hymns, and offer prayers.
Robert C. Miller was married once to Ann Wilson, daughter of John and Margaret Wilson Of County Atrium, Ireland, who immigrated to US in 1801. She and Robert married in 1815 and in 1825-27 they moved to Newton County Georgia where they were founding members of Hopewell Associate Reformed Church.
