Cynthia Rose was the second of seven daughters of Jacob Rose & Rebecca Clark. Cynthia's father served in the War of 1812; both her grandfathers, Andrew Rose and Isaac Clark, served in the American Revolution (on the winning side!).

At age 16, Cynthia married on August 21, 1823, to James Coulter; 11 children: John (died age 6), Samuel, Nancy, Mary Ann (died age 9), Rebecca Jane, Richard Lewis, James Madison, Henrietta, Andrew Jackson, Catharine (died age 10 days), and Amanda.

Cynthia's namesake granddaughter, Cynthia Rose McCoy (1858-1933) remembered her grandmother's funeral in 1881, where the elder Cynthia's sons carried their mother's coffin on their shoulders, and the church bell tolled for each year of her age, 75.
