Rosary for Amada "Amy" Cuevas Garcia, 79, will be recited on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 7:00pm in St. Isidore Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 2:00pm in the same church with Rev. Brian Wood, officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

Amy died Sunday, November 15, 2020, in Lubbock, TX.

She was born on July 28, 1941 in Bremond, TX to Pedro & Dominga (Solano) Cuevas. Amy married Joe Garcia on May 29, 1960 in Hale Center, TX. They were the first couple to be married in the newly built St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Joe & Amy moved to Petersburg for 8 years before moving to Abernathy and making it their home. Her fluent Spanish allowed her to be a valuable asset to the Migrant Program at Abernathy ISD for over 30 years. Amy also served the citizens of Abernathy as an EMS volunteer. She followed all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to all of their many school activities. Amy was a longtime faithful and active member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.

Amy was preceded in death by her husband Joe Garcia, daughter Patricia Garcia Lopez, sister Inez Wade, and brother Daniel Cuevas.

She is survived by her children Cathy Saldana and husband, Gilbert, of Amarillo, TX, Joe Garcia, Jr. and wife Melissa and Amy Garcia, both of Lubbock, and Pete Garcia of Abernathy, 10 grandchildren Michael, Arnold, Kori, Alejandra, Tasha, Mariana, Joey, Catarina, Kennedy, and Cash, 6 great grandchildren Alyssum, Zakk, Quinn, Reese, Brandon, and Bria, 3 sisters Mary Lopez, Manuela Cuevas, and Janie Rodriguez, and one brother Bobby Cuevas.
