Alvin Geidel, 88, of Mitchell, SD, passed on to his heavenly home on Friday, November 13, 2020, at Firesteel Nursing Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, with a burial at the Inmmanuel Lutheran Cemetary, Dimock, SD at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Alvin Walter Geidel was born to Alvin H. and Alma Geidel in rural Douglas County on March 16, 1932. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed there by Rev. John Dewald in June of 1946. He attended grade school in rural Douglas County. After graduating from the eighth grade, he worked on the family farm until November of 1953 when he was drafted into the US Army. After basic training, he spent 17 months serving our country in Japan. After returning from the Army, he married Dorothea Scheetz. They farmed south of Mt. Vernon for four years and then moved to the family farm where they farmed until 1992. In 1993 they moved to Mitchell where he worked as a truck driver until 2006 before retiring. In retirement he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, gardening, and calling bingo on Saturdays at Meadowlawn Plaza.

He is survived by his three daughters, Rhonda (Dean) Boehmer of Dimock, SD, Renae (Terry) Kleinsasser, Mitchell, SD, Roxann Harkins, Nashville, TN; and one son, Loren Geidel of Parkson, SD; three sisters, Nelda Neugebauer, Irma Geidel and Margaret Scheetz; one sister-in-law, Gladys Geidel; the mother of his children, Dorothea Geidel, and four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Alma Geidel, siblings Adelia (Ervin) Matzner, Gilbert (Lydia) Geidel, Leona (Merle) Rogers, Gerhardt (Adeline) Geidel, Evelyn (Marvin) Hoffman, Donald Geidel, Harvey Geidel; brothers-in-law Ray "Butch" Neugebaur, Howard Geidel and Harlan Scheetz; and several neices and nephews.
