Donald Julius Geidel was born to Alvin H. and Alma Geidel on January 12, 1931 in rural Douglas County. He was baptized by Rev. Hempel on February 8, 1931. He was confirmed on June 24, 1945 by Pastor John Dewald. He was a life-time member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dimock, SD.

He attended rural grade school in Douglas County. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and attended basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was then sent to Germany until 1954.

After returning from Germany, he worked on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Gladys Scheetz on October 24, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Leonard Eberhard. They farmed near Delmont until 1960. They then moved and farmed near Mount Vernon. In 1966, they purchased and began a dairy farm near Dimock.

He served on various offices at Immanuel Lutheran Church and on the Washington township board. In his retirement years he enjoyed playing cards, pool, board games, fishing and being on the church dartball team.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Edward and Erna Scheetz; brothers, Gilbert and Gerhard; sisters: Adelia Matzner, Leona Rogers, Evelyn Hoffman; brothers-in-law: Ervin Matzner, Merle Rogers, Raymond Neugebauer, Howard Geidel, Marvin Scheetz, Harlan Scheetz; sisters-in-law, Katherine Heidinger, Lydia Geidel and Adeline Geidel.

(Died in a car accident on Highway 37 south of Mitchell.)
