"The last wolf in the township was killed by Alexander Putman. He was calling wild turkeys by mimicking their call, when a wolf, supposing he was a turkey, approached him, expecting to feast on wild turkey. Putman saw him place his fore feet on a log, listening to catch the sound of the supposed wild turkey's call, and shot him in this position. (late 1850s)
