Janet Harris McCall Stanley's father was Thomas McCall, one of Laurens County largest planters and one of the most distinguished of Georgia citizens. He was the son of James McCall, who was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Revolutionary War, and engaged in a number of battles.

Mary Ann Smith, his second wife, was the mother of Janet Harris McCall Stanley. She was the great-great-granddaughter of the first Governor James Moore, of
South Carolina, and a great-great-granddaughter of the first Thomas Smith, a landgrave, and Governor of South Carolina. She was also descended from Governor Sanders, of South Carolina. Her ancestor, Governor James Moore I, married Margaret Berringer, the stepdaughter of Sir John Yeomans, first Royal Governor of South Carolina.

Janet Harris McCall Stanley's uncle, Hugh McCall, brother to her father, Thomas, was first an ensign, then a Lieutenant in the Paymaster's Department, then a
Captain and then a Brevt Major. He wrote the first History of Georgia which was published in 1811.
