Helen was born February 15, 1941 to Robert Lee and Allie Hubbard Hall in Robeline, La, the 7th of 8 children. She was loved, adored and very spoiled by her older siblings. She left this world to join her loved ones in heaven on November 6, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her daughters.

Helen was married to Theron Starnes, Sr on May 30, 1959 and they had 4 children. During 61 years of marriage, they together worked very hard and raised their children and built a home in Natchitoches, La. She taught her children the value of working hard, taking care of your family and being a good neighbor. She never met a baby she didn’t love, including her 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She loved having her family at her house for the holidays, cooking more than an army could eat. She prepped and planned for weeks ahead. Feeding people was her gift. She loved it and her joy was found in sitting and eating with her family. Rarely did we go to her house to help with maintenance that she didn’t insist on cooking lunch. Watching her make biscuits was inspirational. She made it look effortless, and they were the best you’d ever eat. Baking was her forte. You couldn’t outbake her. She kept an immaculate home. She worked tirelessly to keep it spotless. She truly made our house a home. She also loved working in her yard, creating, planting, pruning and loving her pretty yard was something to be envied. She spent more hours than we can count keeping her yard beautiful.

Raising 4 children couldn’t have been easy! She set standards for us and didn’t budge from them. Now, we know she was a maternal genius. She loved us so much that she didn’t compromise. It made us good, hard working and productive members in this world, never to sit back and wait on something to be done, but reaching out to make it happen ourselves. She was a phenom!

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved children Bridget Briley (Louis), Sonya Rollo (Jeffrey), Missy James (Chad). Grandchildren Ashley Johnson (Jason), Luke Briley (Desirae), Vance Starnes (Katy), Brodie Starnes, Andy James and Landry James. Great grandchildren Taylor and Camden Starnes, Nathan and Trace Starnes, Briley and Macklin Johnson, Nolan, Nora and Allie Kate Briley, siblings RC Hall , WD Hall and Carmel Goodrow, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Allie C. Hall, her husband Theron Starnes, Sr., son Theron Starnes, Jr., grandsons Wes Rollo and Caine Starnes, and her siblings Claudie Lee Bryant, Sadie Mae Bryant, Odell Berry, Douglas Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in their mother’s memory to her late grandson’s non-profit the W.A.R. Foundation (301 Plantation Point, Natchitoches, LA 71457) that takes critically ill children on hunting and fishing trips, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

We would also like to thank Hospice of Natchitoches who lovingly guided us through mama’s last days to keep her comfortable.
