Robert E Sayler was one of ten children born to Andreas Jr and Magdalina (Schlechter) Sayler. He was born at Napoleon, Logan County, North Dakota. In 1903 the family moved 9 miles southwest of Underwood, ND. Robert did not finish grade school, only went in the winter time, when there were less chores to do.

Robert loved music. He played the violin, concertina, clarinet, and built his own drum. In the early 1960's he learned to play the piano. He played for many barn dances and in homes.

Robert married Kathryn (Katie) Arlt in 1927. They had four children, Blanche, Verine, Elwood and Patricia.

In 1932 Robert received a Doctor of Hypnotism Therapy and Doctor of Physiology Certificate from Tonk Institute of Chicago, Illinois. He became a member of the North Dakota Society of Naturopathic Physicians. He practiced from 1933 to summer of 1936.

The family lost their savings when the bank went broke and they returned to a farm his father had purchased some years before. In 1943 Robert purchased a farm. He milked a large number of cows and also had a large number of chickens and hogs.

Robert started a double mixed quartet, later a men's quartet, which were all relatives.

Robert retired in 1965. They later purchased a home in Underwood. They spent their winters in Mesa, Az. Katie died in Mesa. Robert died in an ambulance between Underwood and Washburn, ND. Both are buried in the Underwood City Cemetery.
