Ron Henrichsen was born August 7, 1921 in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska where he attended grade and high school. His parents and he moved to Iowa in 1938. While attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston, Iowa, he met Laura Nafke from Prescott, Iowa. In 1944, Laura and he were married. Ron and Laura had three daughters; Rhonda Green of Littleton, CO, Barbara Davidson of Dallas, TX, and Christine Knippel of Fort Dodge, IA. They have 5 grandchildren; Jason Green, Omaha, NE; Matt Green Littleton, CO; Chelsa Crouch, Corsicana, TX; Jenny Fuqua, Perry, IA; and Nicole Knipple, Fort Dodge, IA. They have 3 great grandchildren.
In 1943, Ron entered the Armed Forces where he trained at Fort Knox, Camp Campbell, KY, and Camp Fannin in Tyler, TX. Ron was an infantry man in WWII who fought in the Philippine Islands where he made 5 beach head landings. He fought for 85 straight days in the mountains and due to survival become a platoon sergeant. He was awarded the bronze star for bravery in action. Upon WWII ending, he was transferred to the 11th Air Borne Division and assigned occupational duty in Japan. Due to his rank as a Sergeant he was made the manager of a bakery company, baking bread for 14,000 men of the Toyokyo, Yokohoma area. Due to a company that helped feed 14,000 men on a daily basis, all brass seemed to inspect the bakery. He reported directly to the Secretary of War Patterson, General Eckelberger and to General McArthur.
After military service, Ron and Laura farmed for 8 years near Lorimor, Iowa. In 1954, he quit farming to work for Felco (formerly Land O' Lakes) in Fort Dodge. During his employment for Land O Lakes he spent most of his years in the Public Relations Department. He became well known as a Motivational Speaker throughout the Midwest. Ron spoke to groups in all walks of life; commencements, corporation, personal and large agricultural audiences. In all of his speeches he interwove his philosophy of "Take the Lord with you and make your plans big". In 1977, he received the National Vocational Agricultural teacher's award for the development of a "Teachers Guide for Four Methods of Doing Business."
After retirement from Land O' Lakes, Laura and Ron spent 20 plus years at their home in Arizona. Ron and his family rode and showed Quarter Horses from the Midwest to California. He loved to ride in the Arizona Mountains every winter. Ron always said, "Life has been fun".
Ron was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.
