Dorothy was born on June 6, 1922 in Edgerton, Kansas to Lee and Edythe (Lyons) Erskine. She was a lifelong Johnson County resident, graduating from Edgerton High School in 1940. On February 9, 1941 she married the love of her life, Freddie Brecheisen. They bought a house in Gardner, Kansas where they raised their three children. In 1961, they purchased the Gardner Variety Store and enjoyed operating it until they retired.
Dorothy loved her family and she will greatly be missed! The highlight of her life was having family gather in her home for fun, food and fellowship. Her favorite hobbies were putting together puzzles and reading books. She loved playing the card game Hand and Foot and Mexican Dominoes. Dorothy had a servant’s heart. She was a caregiver for her husband many years and also for her mother for a few years. Following Freddie’s death, she enjoyed attending the Senior Center in Gardner, eating lunch there with friends and playing cards. She was a member of the Gardner Presbyterian Church and Gardner Grange.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Rochte of Gardner, Kansas; son Howard Brecheisen and his wife Joyce of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; son Kenneth of Gulfport, Mississippi; sister Juanita Cason of Sun City, Arizona and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Edythe Erskine; husband Freddie Brecheisen; brother Roger Erskine; and sister Helen Fesmire.
