Margaret Ellen (Ballinger) Rumple, 98, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022 at home with her family by her side, falling just short of her goal to reach 100 years. She was born in Gas City, Indiana on September 10, 1923 to the late Ira and Maggie (Nelson) Ballinger. Margaret was the only daughter born to Ira and Maggie and had seven brothers. She grew up in Gas City and on June 30, 1945, she married Walter M. Rumple with whom she celebrated 75 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing on October 30, 2020. In 1960 Walter and Margaret left South Bend, Indiana and brought their family to live in Scottsburg, Indiana. She enjoyed being a part of the womens' bowling league and was previously a member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority. The love of family travel was passed along to their children, taking numerous trips that included Maine, Montana and Wyoming, Canadian provinces and many trips to visit Grandpa Ballinger in Florida. Margaret was a member of the First Christian Church of Scottsburg who read her bible regularly and loved to sing her favorite hymns at home. Together she and Walter were the owners of the old Shady Nook Motel and Holly Shop gift shop and co-owners of Pioneer Village near Hardy Lake. Eventually she returned to the work force on a part time basis at The Sunshine House while in her eighties. The people that knew Margaret will remember her as being a loving, generous and compassionate person. She loved God, her family, and all of her children's spouses as her own, and that love was returned by all of them. Throughout her life, she always cherished her various roles as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, excelling at all of them. Her smile, laughter and love will be missed, but forever remembered. In addition to her parents and husband, Walt, Margaret is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angie Mayfield Colbert; a grandson, Bret Rumple; a great grandson, Andre Cozart; a son-in-law, Dennis Nicholson; and seven brothers. She is survived by, five children, Diann Mayfield (Glen) of Avon, Indiana, Nina Cozart (Wayne) of Crothersville, Indiana, Judy Nicholson-Hay (Donnie) of Madison, Indiana, Steve Rumple (Debby) of Scottsburg, Indiana and Nancy Inman (John) of Brandenburg, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren, Jennifer Combs (Christopher), Doug Mayfield (Shanna), Christie Carr (Marc), Suzie Riley (Bobby), Andrew Cozart, Jeff Nicholson, Joe Nicholson (Wendy), Jessica Coomes (Jeremy), Donnie Hay (Kelley), Brad Rumple (Jennifer), Ryan Inman (Bethany), Kimberly Jones (Brad), Johnny Inman (Tracy), Matthew Inman (Monica), and David Inman (Tracey); forty great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks goes to Judy Irving, for the tireless and selfless loving care that she provided for the last two years. Funeral Service: 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at First Christian Church. Visitation: 11:00 am to 3:00 pm Wednesday at First Christian Church. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana.
