Oliver was the son of James Ellis and Margery Hubbard. He married Sarah Woodward on September 5, 1841 in Harpersfield, Delaware, New York. They were the parents of Ezra, Hiram, Daniel, Friend, Asa, James & Polly Ellis.


Oliver had 5 brothers (Rasselas, Daniel, Hiram, Jared, and Erastus) and 5 sisters (Lydia, Hannah, Mary, Clarissa, and Eliza).

September 23, 1898 - Harvard Herald - Oliver C. Ellis death occurred September 15, 1898 (Thursday) at the age of 83 years at his home in Chemung Township (McHenry Co, IL). He was born in Broome, Schoharie Co, NY on December 5, 1815, the son of James Ellis and Margery Hubbard. He came west in 1855, living in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Kansas, and for the last four years in Chemung Township, (McHenry Co), Illinois.


Mr. Ellis was a pious and devoted man. He experienced religion in early life, and was for sixty years a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He leaves a widow (Sarah Woodward Ellis), with whom he journeyed over half a century, and five sons ((Ezra), Daniel, Asa, Friend, & James), besides grandchildren and great grandchildren. His son Hiram and daughter Polly preceded him in death.


Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased Saturday (17th) and he was buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery (Harvard, IL.).
