Lake View Resort - Thursday , March 19th, 1914 - Funeral services for E.H. Ellis, who passed away Thursday, March 12th, was held from the residence on Sunday in charge of the Masonic order.
Interment was made at Wall Lake Cemetery.
Erastus Herbert Ellis was born March 11, 1827 in Allegheny Co., N.Y. He was married to Lizette Minerva
Potter in Lenewee Co., Mich., on Nov. 6, 1855. The following year Mr. and Mrs. Ellis came to Iowa, stopping at Nashua, Chickasaw Co. They came to Northwestern Iowa about 1878, finally reaching Lake View about 1891, where they have since resided.
One child, a daughter, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellis. She was married to J.G. Lester at Nashua. Seven daughters were the result of this union. The oldest, Mrs. Frank Swinehart of Chicago, has been with Mr. Ellis during the last three weeks of his final illness. Another granddaughter, Mrs. Frederick White of Seattle, Wash., has visited in Lake View, and is known to a number of our citizens.
The daughter died some years ago.
Mr. Ellis enlisted in the Civil War in 1862, serving three years. He was with Gen. Grant in some of his early important engagements, and was at Vicksburg when Grant entered that city on July 4, 1863.
Mrs. Ellis expects to make her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. Swinehart.
