Richard Henry Crew, Jr. was the son of Richard Henry Crew, Sr. and his first wife Margaret Potts. He was born at Rouge Hill in Scarborough Township, York County. His month and day of birth are taken from the 1901 Canada Census and may be inaccurate.

He married Catherine Ann Ley on 5 February 1887 in Pickering, Ontario County. Richard worked as a stage coach driver, and later as a railway brakeman.

He died on 7 December 1915 at Grace Hospital in Toronto, York, County.
