Born in Ogden, Utah. The fourth of five sons and three daughters of Franz Albert Gottlieb Behling and Agnes Sophia Johnson. Grew up in Ogden. Graduated from Ogden High School, Class of 1937. Received an associate of science degree from Weber College, Class of 1939. Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University, Class of 1942. Graduated as co-valedictorian of his class. Employed in Bridgeport, Connecticut with Remington Arms. Recruited to work on the Manhattan Project. Moved to Oakridge, Tennessee. Also employed at General Electric's Hanford Plant Richland, Washington, Morris Fuel Recover plant in Joliet, Illinois and Valecitos Nuclear Laboratory Livermore, California.

Married Beverly Darlene Clement September 17, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including bishop, Stake Patriarch, in the Stake Presidency, temple ordinance worker, a sealer in the Oakland California and Bountiful Utah temples. Served a mission to the Cody Wyoming Visitor's Center with wife in 1983-1984. Enjoyed back packing in the mountains with buddies, sons and/or grandchildren and baking pies for people he knew. An avid reading and a student of learning his entire life.

Survived by wife Beverly, seven children: Larry (Marie) Behling, Leslie (Merle-deceased) Linton, Richard (Shanna-divorced) Behling, Karl (Kathy) Behling, Kathryn (Scott) Winsor, Mary Ann (Steve) Showell and Paul (Lynn) Behling, 34 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren. Predeceased by a great grandchild.

Service held Saturday, September 29, 2007 in Bountiful, Utah.
