MRS. W. C. LYON - Nellie Loomis Lyon was born at Windsor Locks, near Suffield, Connecticut, April 20, 1873. At the age of ten she came with her parents to Fargo, Dakota Territory where she graduated from the High School in 1891. After completing her training at the Minnesota State Normal School at Moorhead, her first year of teaching was spent at Crookston, Minn. The next five years she taught at Fargo, North Dakota.
On October 6, 1898, Nellie Cornelia Loomis was united in marriage to the Rev. Willard Crosby Lyon, also of Fargo, who was at the time, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of LaMoure, North Dakota.
In 1903, at the call of the First Presbyterian Church, the little family moved to Casselton, North Dakota. Five years later, in 1908, Mr. Lyon was called to the pastorate of the First Congregational church of Valley City, North Dakota. The years 1920-41 were spent at Gary, Indiana, where her husband had accepted the pastorate of the First Congregational Church. From Gary, in 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Lyon moved to Priest River, Idaho, where he is the pastor of the Community Congregational Church.
Four children were born to them Dr. Clarence Loomis Lyon of Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Frederick Judson Culver of Halls, Missouri and twin daughters, Mrs. Herbert A Becker and Mrs. William R. Matthews, both of Spokane.

More than two years ago she was striken with an illness demanding surgery. She never fully regained her health and after two days in a Spokane hospital, she passed on October 12th. Simple funeral services were held at the crematorium October 15th, conducted the the Rev. Dr. Joel Harper, former minister of the Westminister Congregational Church of Spokane, and a long time friend of the family.
"And so beside the Silent Sea
I wait the muffled oar;
No harm from him can come to me
On ocean or on shore.
I know not where his islands lift
Their fronded palms in air;
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond his love and care."
