She met a Missouri farm boy who was a soldier during the American occupation of Berlin. They fell in love. After years apart, she got permission to immigrate to America to marry Ernest ‘George” Hartner.
They raised five children; Raymond, Michael, Kent, Christiane and Janine. Now between their 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren, Mr. & Mrs. H (as they called themselves) became a family of almost 60. Rose raised their children in Clinton, Missouri and still managed to go to school, earning Bachelor’s, Master’s and Specialist’s degrees.
She taught English and German at Sherwood High School, substituted in the Clinton School District and finished her career as an adjunct facility member at State Fair Community College teaching literature. In December of 2018, she decide to retire at the age of almost 90, earning Adjunct Teacher of the Year.
She devoted her almost 92 years of life to teaching, gardening, family, her endless love for all animals and spending time at Table Rock Lake. On October 15TH , Rose was reunited with George, who preceded her in death in 2011.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, October20, 2020 at Consalus Funeral Home, 209 South 2nd Street, Clinton, Missouri.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM, October 21, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 East Franklin, Clinton, Missouri.
The family has requested memorial donations be made to Heartland Hospice, or the Clinton Animal Shelter and left in the care of Consalus Funeral Home.
