Bernice was a lifelong member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley, under the leadership of Reverend A. Parris.
Bernice was raised in Cotton Plant and Brinkley and attended the Brinkley Public School System. She was a 1961 graduate of Marian Anderson High School. In her later years, she went on to further her education by attending the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 1986.
Bernice went on to become a certified Special Education Teacher and began teaching at the Brinkley Public School System, where she taught school for 25 years before retiring in 2011 after 25 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her husband LeVern Seward of Little Rock, AR; three sons: Cedric McKissick of Chicago, Ill; Shawn Swanigan of Lithonia, GA; and Kirk Seward of Blue Spring, MO; four daughters: Creshondra McKissick-Brown of Little Rock, AR; Cynthia McKissick and Kimberly Seward both of Brinkley, AR; Candice Seward-Jones of Pine Bluff, AR; two sisters: Virginia Williams of Brinkley, AR; and Sylvia Jones of Flint, MI; eleven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends survive her.
Visitation was held at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel, 911 North Main Street in Brinkley. Funeral services were held at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley with Evangelist Gloria Conyears officiating.
