Ada May Buckmaster, born September 17, 1935 in Lansing, MI, passed away January 2, 2020. Ada worked at the Michigan National Tower for Michigan National Bank but decided to be a stay-at-home mom and provided day care for many of the neighborhood children and her granddaughters. She later became a second mom to many of these children. Ada enjoyed spending time with family and loved painting. Many of her nieces and nephews received Christmas tree ornaments for many years that were specially painted by Auntie Ada. She enjoyed cake decorating and was so gifted she made most of her nieces and nephews their 3-tiered wedding cake for their weddings. She will be missed by all. All who knew her will miss that special twinkle in her eye and of course all the hugs and kisses when leaving her home and saying your goodbyes. Vernor’s soda was her choice of beverage which began in 1955 with a date with Jack in which he bought her a six-pack of Vernor’s. As a matter of fact she still has an unopened bottle to this day.

People loved Ada’s wonderful smile and gentleness. She was a lifelong member of Delta Mills United Methodist church where she was baptized and married. She was also a member of United Methodist Women where she helped coordinate many events to help fund the projects of the group.

Ada is survived by her daughter-in-law Michelle Buckmaster; granddaughters Lindsey Buckmaster and Chelsey Buckmaster, great granddaughter Nova White a brother Dewey “Bill” (Carol) Berryhill, sisters-in-law Katie Buckmaster and Luanne Berryhill and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack”, son John, brothers Alfred DeWayne (Reta) Berryhill and Robert Berryhill, sisters Barbara (Ed) Swanson and Betty Johnston, brother-in-law Richard Buckmaster, father and mother-in-law John (Buck) and Irene Buckmaster and parents A. Dewey and Fannie Berryhill.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Pastor Joseph Spackman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. For those wishing, memorial contributions can be made to Delta Mills United or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. Online condolences may be made at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
