Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Winner, 82 of Carlos, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, at Western Maryland Health System, surrounded by his wife, all four of his daughters, and a few other family members.
Born June 28, 1937, in Gilmore, Larry was the son of the late George and Beulah Winner. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Carolyn "Tess" Winner; brothers, Mick Winner Sr. and Dickie Winner; sisters, Delores Smith and Judy Winner; grandson, Mick Winner Jr.; and a step-granddaughter, Ashley Cooper.
Larry graduated from Valley High School, Class of 1955, in Lonaconing and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was retired from the Maryland Department of Corrections as a correctional officer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Midland. Larry enjoyed going to the "Patch" or the Midland Outdoor Club to play cards. He looked forward to his time at the Patch.
Larry is survived by his wife, Wilma J. Winner, a lifelong friend and former neighbor. They were married Aug. 17, 2007.
Also surviving are daughters, Paula Winner, Tina Winner, Erica McGonigal, and Dorian Mellott, all of Hagerstown; stepchildren, Rick Cooper and wife, Kim, of Frostburg, Roxann Baeza and husband, Willie, of Mooresville, N.C.; grandchildren, Zane Mills and wife, Amanda, Dillon Shaffer and wife, Victoria, Jewel Shaffer, Emily Shaffer, Sydney Shaffer, and Jade Winner, all of the Hagerstown area; Kenny Cooper and wife, Katrina, and Amanda Cooper, both of Frostburg; Paul, Chris and Lauren Baeza of Mooresville, N.C.; 11 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Ray Winner and wife, Wanda, Hagerstown, George Winner and wife, Joann, Rockville; and several nieces and nephews.
