Gwendolyn "Gwen" Hortense Simon Eubank
September 5, 1932 ~ October 2, 2020

Gwen Eubank, 88, of Whitney, Texas passed away October 2, 2020 in Waco, Texas. She was born near Whitney, Texas September 5, 1932 to Elmer Festus “Nick” Simon and Mable Irene (Baty) Simon.

On August 1, 1950 she married Charles “Charlie” Dale Eubank in Durant, Oklahoma to whom she was married until his death in 2012. After receiving a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Education from Baylor University, Gwen served for many years as a school teacher for Whitney ISD and later as a Principal and Assistant Superintendent.

In addition to being an educator, Gwen took great pride in her entrepreneurial pursuits, owning and operating Mr. Charlie’s, a local women’s fashion boutique which she commonly referred to as the “dress shop” and later managing her daughter-in-law’s store, Relics in downtown Whitney. She was also a committed public servant and volunteer, offering her years of experience in education to Hill College where she served on the Board of Regents for many years and volunteering many hours of service to the King Memorial United Methodist Church, of which she was a lifelong member.

In her “spare” time, Gwen enjoyed researching the Eubank family genealogy and compiled extensive notebooks filled with personal letters, news stories and historical documents tracing the family lineage back to the Middle Ages. Gwen will be remembered not only for her keen intellect and genuine respect for others, but also for her unfailing love and commitment to her family, especially her grand children with each of whom she created a unique, special bond.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, her parents, Nick and Mable, her brother, Bob Simon and her sister, Mary Hannah. Survivors include her children: Charles Dale Eubank Jr. and wife, Julie, Kent Eubank and wife, Susan, six grand children, nine great-grand children, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
