Burial from Vol. 1, pg. 17, Wayne County, Illinois Cemetery Inscriptions
Incorrectly listed as Joseph G. Creighton (no dates) see obituary below.

Oddly the dates for this burial match a listing for a Mary A. Creighton on page 18, Vol. 1 of the Wayne county Cemetery indexes. Originally I had it listed this way but I think there was an error in the book since he is buried next to his parents and brother Charles. Here is his obituary extracted from the 2/2/1899 Wayne County Press:

Death of Joseph C. Creighton
Joseph C. Creighton, son of John M. and Mary Ann Creighton, was born in Wayne County, Illinois 1/13/1855 and died at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, 1/23/1899, aged forty-four years and ten days.
He spent his boyhood days on the farm, and in the county district school. Attended Fairfield High School, McKendree College, and was graduated from the law department of that institution of learning. Continued his law studies at Springfield, Illinois, with his brother, James A Creighton, for a time after leaving college, and entered the practice of his profession at Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois in the year 1880. In 1884 he was married to Miss Cordelia B. Allen, of Taylorville. He was City Attorney of the City of Taylorville, Master in Chancery for Christian county and in 1888 was elected State's Attorney of Christian County . . . eight years. About four years ago he became affilicted with pulmonary consumption and removed to Salt Lake City, Utah.
He leaves surviving: his wife, five brothers and one sister. His remains brought to Fairfield. Services were held at Ebenezer church northeast of Fairfield, at 11 o'clock a.m. Saturday. The deceased was buried by the side of his brother, Charles, who was a preacher in the M.E. church and died some years ago.
