Another Old Citizen Gone

Mrs. Mary Ann Creighton died at the old homestead in Jasper township Sunday evening last at 2:30 o'clock. She suffered recently with rheumatism, but the immediate cause of death was pneumonia.

Deceased was born in Barnhill township, this county, and was in her 71st year. She was the daughter of Rev. James Crews and is survived by one brother and two sisters - Major Nathan Crews, and Mrs. S.J.R. Wilson, all well known citizens. She was married when 17 years of age to John M. Creighton, of White county, and for a few years after their marriage they lived in that county, but soon moved to this county and settled in Jasper township. Eight children were born to them, seven sons and one daughter, six of whom are still living: Judge James A. Creighton, of Springfield; Joseph Creighton of Salt Lake City, Utah; Milton Creighton, of Litchfield; Jacob R., Thomas and John Creighton of this county, and Mrs. Walter Borah of Louisiana. All were present for the funeral except Joseph, who was detained by the illness of his wife, and Mrs. Borah of Baldwin, LA. In the death of Mrs. Creighton, Wayne county has lost one of its most respected mothers, a woman who was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her character was a most beautiful one.
