Son of Harvey and Sarah (Bowman) Hawley. He was born in Union TWP, Union County, Ohio most likely on the old Hawley Farm, located on the Buck Run watercourse near Milford Center. He moved with his family before 1860 to Bellefontaine, Logan, Ohio. After the death of his father he continues on in Bellefontaine with his mother, brother and two sisters. In 1870 he is noted on the census as selling sewing machines. He died in 1876, a month before his brother.
