Margaret Catherine (Cathy) Schneider Allsup Fleming, 86, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at Morning Sun Care Center, Morning Sun, IA.
Born August 19, 1934, she was the daughter of Clarence F. and Marguerite J. McMahon Schneider.
She attended area parochial schools, graduating from Burlington Catholic High School in 1952.
On January 22, 1955, she married Wendell W. Allsup. She later married Hugh T. Fleming in Denver, CO. Both preceded her in death, as did her parents, and her only sibling, Richard T. Schneider.
Prior to her marriage, Cathy worked for Murray Iron Works. She later had an in-home daycare, and from the early 1970's until her retirement in 1995, she was employed by Great River AEA as a communications aide, spending over 20 years working with children with speech impairments.
She was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Burlington, and All Souls Catholic Parish in Englewood, CO. She belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society, volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, and was a former parish council member. Cathy also served as both Cub Scout & Brownie Girl Scout leader while her children were growing up. She loved to travel, and read, kept beautiful rose gardens, and played in several bridge clubs over the years. She also enjoyed the Mississippi River, boating, and fly fishing, and both used and sold her own hand tied flies. Cathy was also an accomplished seamstress and baker and she was widely known for her beautiful Christmas cookie trays. She had great affection for Crapo Park where she lived for a period of time during her childhood in the Schneider House. Both her father & grandfather served as Park Superintendents, and from an early age she had an interest in the park and it's development. Her devotion to it's welfare remained throughout her life, and it was chosen as her final resting place.
