JAMES H. HAYLEY
Departed this life, Dec. 4th, 1852, at his residence in Marshall County, Miss., James H. Hayley, in the fifty-third year of his age.
He was born in Northampton County, N. C., and when about four years old his father moved to Wake County, of the same State, and lived there until he was in his 19th year, when he married Mary Ann Morring, the 4th of May, 1819, and lived there until the 18th of November, 1836, at which time he left and settled in Bedford Co., Tenn., and lived there nearly seven years. In the fall of 1844, he professed faith in his Redeemer and joined the Baptist Church, (called Big Spring Church) and in the following winter moved to this county.
Brother Hayley has been the subject of sore affliction for twelve years, with a cancer that first made its appearance on the right side of his nose near the corner of the eye. The skill of the most eminent physicians has been exerted to arrest the ravages of the disease, but all to no effect, and for four years and five months, to a day, he had been denied the pleasure of his vision. During all his affliction, he had borne it with Christian fortitude and resignation, and as he approached his dissolution and his physical powers were giving way, his faith, it seemed, became stronger, and brighter for the Heavenly Canaan, and frequently said it was only to die and be with the Lord in whom he trusted. He has left an amiable companion and children; Oh God, be thou a husband to his widow and a father to his fatherless ones.
