Pat touched the lives of thousands of Garland students, parents, and citizens; returning to Garland after earning a BS degree and Master of Education degree from the University of North Texas. He demonstrated tremendous character, ability, and loyalty in his life work and unfailing desire to continue to make Garland the best place to live and serve. He started with GISD in 1966 as a Teacher/Coach, served as Assistant Principal at two other schools, High School Principal, and finished his career at GISD as Director of Secondary Operations before retiring after 32 years of service in 1997. As Director of Secondary Operations he was instrumental in developing the School Resource Officer program. Garland was one of the first districts to have this program, and in 1997 Pat was voted GISD Employee of the Year by his peers. He guided youth by his words and example and did the same with their parents during the good and fun times along with the dark and lonely times.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church Garland where he served on the Board of Deacons, Scholarship Committees, and Usher Committee. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Garland Rotary Club; and he served his country in the Texas Air National Guard.
Pat is survived by his wife; Reba; daughters; Kelly Chumley and husband John; and Amy Baxla and husband Dave; four grandchildren; Makenzie, Savannah, Alyssa, and Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.
