David was born January 29, 1956 in Wells County, to the late Meredith P. Helms and Lettie Maxine (Karrick) Helms.
He received an associates degree from Lincoln Tech in Auto and Truck Technology. He had worked at AgBest Cooperative in Montpelier, IN as a chemical applicator. He was also a member of American Legion Post 156 (S.A.L.) in Montpelier.
David enjoyed and participated in many area tractor pulls. He was also a member and president of the Bro-Shadow Club of Montpelier, IN.
Survivors include a son Nathan D. Helms (Amanda) of Calera, AL; three grandchildren Hannah, Riley, and Avery Helms all of Calera, AL; two brothers Lee Wayne Helms of Warren, IN, and Neil Allen He!ms (Rebecca) of Van Buren, IN, along with his girlfriend Billie M. Baublet of Poneto, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was most comfortable in a T-shirt, jeans and his hat.
