On Nov. 7 (or 20), 1877, T. L. (Thomas Lewis) McFarlane (Jr.) and Caroline 'Carrie' Ann Seeley were married in San Bernardino County, CA., according to San Bernardino County Marriage records.
They built the house at 370 6th street on land the Captain gave them.
McFarlane's family was (indirectly) related to Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition fame.
McFarlane made a fortune as a partner in a silver mine east of Twentynine Palms.

Thomas worked hard in the mines while Carrie McFarlane raised their children:

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Barton announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Emma McFarlane. to Bruce Beamer, of Los Angeles. The wedding will take place the latter part of this month, at the home of the bride, in North D street. Miss McFarlane is a native daughter and a most charming and popular one. Mr. Beamer is the nephew of W. B. Beamer, superintendent of the Southern California division of the Santa Fe, and is a native of Lansing, Michigan, but has resided in this city and Los Angeles for several years. They will make their home in the latter city, where Mr. Beamer is in business.

Mrs. J. H. Barton of D street will leave this morning for a visit of several days with her daughter, Mrs. Bruce Beamer and Mr. Beamer in Los Angeles. Saturday is the wedding anniversary of the Beamers, and Mrs. Barton will remain over for a little celebration.

An era of San Bernardino history came to a close Wednesday when Emma Lou (Lewis) Beamer, 84, native and resident of this city for most of her life, died at a San Bernardino rest home.
Born in a home which is still standing at the corner of 6th and D streets, Mrs. Beamer’s last address was 815 N. Arrowhead Ave.
Mrs. Beamer was the daughter of Caroline Seely McFarlane Barton, whose father was Capt. David Seely, wagon master of the first wagon train of Mormons to arrive in the San Bernardino valley in 1851.
Capt. Seely led the group that built the stockade on the present site of the San Bernardino County Courthouse.
Seely at one time owned the entire block from 6th to 7th streets, and from C Street (now Arrowhead Ave.) to D Street.
A lumberman, Seely established the mill town of Seely Flats north of Crestline.
When Mrs. Beamer’s mother died on Oct. 16, 1956, she was the oldest living native daughter in San Bernardino County. Had she lived until Dec. 7 of that year, she would have been 100 years old.
Mrs. Beamer’s father was Thomas McFarlane, a mining engineer who owned and developed the early-day Ivanpah silver mines, deep in the Mojave Desert.
Her step-father was John H. Barton, pioneer businessman and rancher, and brother of H. M. Barton, San Bernardino’s first mayor.
The home which John Barton built in the 1870s on the present site of the Civic Center Motel was considered one of the showplaces of san Bernardino.
The home contained 14 rooms, including seven bedrooms, a library, parlor, kitchen and dining room. The doorknobs were solid bronze.
One of the last mansions in San Bernardino when it was razed in 1959, the structure was noted for its antique furnishings.
Mrs. Beamer moved into the home when her mother married Barton, and returned years later to care for her mother in her old age.
Mrs. Beamer’s husband was Bruce Beamer, one of the early-day real estate developers in the community of Hollywood. The couple lived in Los Angeles for a brief period until Beamer’s death in 1935, when Mrs. Beamer returned to San Bernardino.
She was a life-long member of the Women’s Club of Los Angeles, and held the same standing in the Pioneer Society of San Bernardino.
She was a member of St. Bernardine’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include three nephews, John J. McEntee, with whom she lived; Jack Barry of Santa Barbara; and Neville McFarlane of Riverside.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Lord’s Funeral Chapel.
Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Bernardine’s Catholic Church, with the rev. John Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Pioneer Memorial Cemetery.
