Charles John Button of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life Thursday, September 24, 2020 at his home. He was 88.

Charles was born May 5, 1932 in Hockerville, OK to S.P. and Thelma (Cassell) Button. He had lived in Baxter Springs for over 70 years.

He graduated from Quapaw High School Class of 1950. Charles was a lead and zinc miner in Picher, OK and then worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami, OK as a tire builder, tube builder and in maintenance department until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Baxter Spring, KS since 1954 where he served as an Elder and Deacon, Baxter Springs Lodge No. 71 AF & AM where he served as Worshipful Master twice, Order of the Eastern Star of Baxter Springs, Magnolia Chapter 158 where he was Past Worthy Patron, 32 degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Consistory Pittsburg, KS, Miraza Shrine Temple Pittsburg, KS, Baxter Springs Lions Club, Troop 15 Boy Scouts of American Scoutmaster for 60 years where he made over 40 trips to Canada with Scout Troop 15 and was a Silver Beaver Recipient, volunteer for Baxter Springs Museum, volunteer with Mercy Hospice, Baxter Springs Girls Softball coach and Little League Baseball coach, member of the Quapaw Gourd Club and Grand Marshall 2 times for the Cowtown Days in Baxter Springs, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother Sylvester “Junior” Button, Jr.

Charles married Charlene Leading Fox on September 2, 1950 and she survives of the home.

Additional surviviors include 1 son Charles Albin Button and wife Vicki of Tulsa, OK, 3 daughters Dr. Cherita Ruth Graber and husband Steve of Branson, MO, Carolyn Charisse Nott and husband William of Baxter Springs, KS and Charla Irene Ogle of Baxter Springs, KS, 1 sister Dorothy Kammerer of Vacaville, CA, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Private family services will be held. Charles will lie in state at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, OK from 9 a.m. - 5p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 for those who wish to sign the register book and pay their respects. The family requests any of those attending the visitation and or the funeral service to practice social distancing and all to wear masks. Services have been placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
