William “Big Bill” Boweter passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Wednesday evening, April 16, 2014. Bill was born Nov. 12, 1944 to Calvin L. Boweter and Edith Rose Mattingly Boweter and was the third of five children. He attended local schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1963. He married Beatrice Markham on Aug. 15, 1972 in Tooele, Utah and sealed on July 12, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they were the parents of a daughter, Kendra Sue, who was the love of Bill’s life. He worked in various construction jobs before hiring on at the Tooele Army Depot in June of 1966 as a trades helper. He worked as a mechanic in the electronic fire control of the NIKE HERC Missile System. He transferred to power ground, working with gas, diesel and turban generators. He went to DARCOM intern training center at Red River Army Depot, Texas, in 1980. He worked in production, planning and control fifteen years before retiring in 1995 with thirty years at Tooele Army Depot. These are a few of his favorite things: Bill loved the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and loved boating, hiking and camping; he loved to work with his hands, building model airplanes, cars, ships and trains; he loved working with wood and his tropical fish. Bill ran a tropical fish shop with his wife, raising and selling fish, aquariums and supplies, in their home for five years. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Calvin Richard; sister, Karen L. (Floyd E.) Adamson and daughter, Kendra Sue. He is survived by his wife, sisters, Patricia (Jim) Griffith of Grand Junction, Colorado. Terri (Jason) Barton of Layton, Utah and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangement have been made by Tate Mortuary and burial will be in the Tooele City Cemetery beside his daughter, Kendra. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 22, at Tate Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. and from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Little Mountain Ward on 777 E. Skyline Drive, Tooele, Utah, with funeral at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, help towards funeral expenses will be greatly appreciated.
