"Mrs. Alice E. (Briggs) Cornell, wife of Claude W. Cornell, died at her home here Saturday morning at 1:20 o'clock after being ill since April 20th, when she suffered a shock. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Tillapaugh Funeral home. The Rev. D. M. Corkwell, Methodist pastor, officiated and burial was in the family plot in Schenevus cemetery. Mrs. Cornell was born at Middlefield March 27, 1879, daughter of Dewitt and Mary (Gano) Briggs. She married Mr. Cornell June 8, 1898. Her life was spent in Westville, Milford, and Oneonta, until she came here eighteen years ago. She was of a cheerful disposition, and became a friend to all with whom she was associated. She was a member of the former Ladies' Aid society and the Truth Seekers' class at the Methodist church, and was a faithful worker as long as her health permitted. Surviving are Mr. Cornell; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Hungerford of Walton and Mrs. Ralph Dutcher of Schenectady; two grandchildren, Beverley and Alice Hungerford. Mrs. Cornell was one of seven children of whom four are living, Mrs. W. B. Penfield of Cooperstown, Mrs. Ira Evans, Mrs. E. W. Palmer and Mrs. F. W. Huesgen of Oneonta. Much sympathy will be extended to them." [The Otsego Farmer & Republican (Cooperstown, NY), Friday, June 18, 1941, Page Eight]
