Nelda Ames Corder (1937-2020)—mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—succumbed to her Covid-related complications and was rewarded with the embrace of her Jesus in whom she believed all things were possible. Nelda believed that the “many that are first shall be last; and the last first” (Mark 10:31) and that she too would be “first” with her Lord.

To those of us who remain to grieve her passing, Nelda would remind us that “That’s just pain […]. It goes eventually. And when it’s gone, there’s no lasting memory. Not the worst of it anyway. It fades. Our minds aren’t made to hold on to the particulars of pain the way we do bliss. It’s a gift God gives us, a sign of His care for us” (Frazier, Cold Mountain 277).

Thus, we her children—Paul Garner, Marie Garner, Brenda Welch, and Kathy Wornat—commend those who loved Nelda to rejoice in her belief that her Jesus is “the resurrection, and the life […]. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die” (John 11: 25-26). Nelda found solace in this scripture because it assured her that she would be (and now is) united with her Lord and reunited with her beloved daughter Beverly Ramey who predeceased her.

On September Saturday, September 12, 2020, from 5 until 7 p.m., there will be a viewing at Galbreaith Pickard for Nelda’s family and friends. Nelda’s family will have her graveside service at the Greenwood Community Cemetery on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at 2 p.m. Her pallbearers are Randall Ames, Anthony Ames, Dewey Ames, Michael Ames, Thomas Garner, and Mark Davis. Her honorary pallbearers are her surviving siblings Joyce Ames, Edward Ames, Roger Ames, and Jerry Ames. In lieu of flowers, Nelda’s family requests that you donate to your favorite charity.
