Thomas King died between 30 March 1713 (Thomas & Mary King, grantor deed to son-in-law John Alger) and 23 February 1718/19 (Mary King, widow, grantee deed from son-in-law Ebenezer Briggs). James Savage's "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England," vol. 3 (Boston:1861), p. 26, says the 1713 deed date was his death date. He doesn't cite the deed, but does cite a gravestone, no location, and an age of 70 years. This is the only time such a gravestone is mentioned and there is no other evidence it ever existed. While it's not impossible he drew up a deed, had it acknowledged in front of an official, died the same day and had a gravestone that disappeared after 1861, it's extremely unlikely. Mary's purchase of the Briggs homestead in 1719 was based on Thomas not leaving her enough money to support herself for the rest of her life. If she was in dire straights in 1713, it's also not reasonable to think she waited 6 years to find a solution. If 30 March 1713 is used as a death date for Thomas, it should be prefaced by "maybe."
