Booneville, KY – Rebecca Byrd Allen, 83, widow of Carlo Allen, passed away Friday, January 13, 2006, at the Owsley County Health Care Center in Booneville, Kentucky. She was born January 9, 1923, in Clay County, Kentucky, to the late Sherman and Leotta Hill Byrd. She was a homemaker, a retired cook for the Owsley County Board of Education, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Island City. Survivors include a son, Glen Allen and a daughter, Violet Combs, both of Island City, Kentucky; two brothers, Eugene Byrd of Island City and Thomas Byrd of Sextons Creek, Kentucky; a sister, Margaret Barrett of Booneville, Kentucky; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 15, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Island City, with Rev. Harold Becknell officiating. Visitation was held on Saturday evening, at the Booneville Funeral Home, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Burial in the Allen Cemetery, Island City, Kentucky, with the Booneville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
