Walt was born in St. Clair on February 14, 1928, son of William Price Hansel and Annie Catherine Hansel nee Brown. On October 18, 1986, he was united in marriage to Linda Ann Strandbergh nee Wendt and their families were joined as one.

Walt is survived by his wife, Linda Hansel of Cedar Hill, MO; by two sons, Michael Hansel and wife, Mae, of Lake Sherwood, MO, and Gregory Hansel and wife, Heather, of Union, MO; by three daughters, Jessica Venable and husband, Michael, of Battlefield, MO, Claudia Fisher of Sullivan, MO and Tammy McIntire and husband, William, of Hermann, MO; by two step-sons, Michael Raglin and wife, Ginger, and James Blackburn and wife, Nicole, all of Old Monroe, MO; by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Hansel; by his wife, Nellie Hansel on March 10, 1984; by four grandchildren, Brandon O'Leary, Elizabeth Williams, Alex Fisher and Melissa Fisher; by five brothers, Harry, James and Cleveland, known to most as Red, Hawkins and Charles Alva and Richard Hansel, and by two sisters, Maude Wenger and Eliza Todd.

Walt was a Christian and long-time member of St. Martin's United Church of Christ in Dittmer, MO. During his working years, he was employed at various factories, having retired in 1991 from Spartan's Showcase in Union, MO. Walt was an active, outgoing and civic minded man. He had volunteered for over twenty-five years at the Cedar Hill Peace Pantry. He also volunteered to cook hot dogs at all the Boy Scout events, and helped Linda as she served the Boy Scouts as a leader. Walt loved spending time outdoors, and fishing and camping trips were a favorite pastime. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the companionship of his little dog, Reba. Nothing made him happier than the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and many wonderful memories were created.

A devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great and great-great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great and great-great-uncle, cousin, and friend, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
