Daniel was the son of Rasselas Ellis and Martha Carpenter. He married Francis Elzina Bean (Mrs Frankie Wiseman, daughter of Stephen D Bean (1819 MO -1886 WI) and Eliza Ann Miller (1829 OH)) on 01 Dec 1898 in Grant City, Sac County, Iowa. They were the parents of Vera Bernice (1899), Gerald E (1904), and Quentin R (1908-1970 CA, #72846971).

THE ODEBOLT CHRONICLE - Thu, Jan 25, 1940 - Dan R Ellis, former Odebolt resident, passed away at a Lake City hospital Friday Jan 19, 1940, after an illness of 6 months, the result of cancer. His health had been failing gradually for more than a year and death came as a relief from his suffering.

Dan R Ellis, an Auburn resident, was born Jan 10, 1870, the son of Mr and Mrs R Ellis, near Sac City. Most of his childhood was spent at Grant City and he attended the Grant City schools. It was here he was united in marriage to Mrs Frankie Wiseman. To this union three children were born: Vera, Quentin, and Gerald, who preceded him in death.

During his lifetime, which extended over a period of 70 years and 9 days, he resided at Auburn, Odebolt, Bronson, Grant City, and Sac City. Mr Ellis was raised a Methodist but later joining the Presbyterian church at Auburn. Here he sang tenor in their choir. He was a teacher in rural schools and section foreman.

He is survived by his wife, two children: Vera and Quentin of Auburn; three sisters and three brothers namely: F.W. Ellis, Alta; Mrs Maud Pelly, Grant City; J.W. Ellis, York NE; Nora (Mrs F.W. Libby), Odebolt; Mrs Mable Goslin, Martin, SD; and W.H. Ellis of Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held at 2 at the Presbyterian church in Auburn. Burial was made in the Grant City cemetery.
