Doris Nell Matthews Hopkins, 94, of Smyrna, TN formerly of East Ridge, TN went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 17, 2020. She was a native of Scottsboro, AL and had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area before moving to Smyrna, TN in 2007. She was a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church in Ft. Oglethorpe and Parkway Baptist Church in Smyrna. Nell loved to watch her son play baseball. She was always at the ballpark and volunteered as a coach throughout the years, receiving "Lady Coach of the Year" award. Her passions in life were God, her son, her grandchildren, and she loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Matthews; her second husband, Arthur "Buddy" Hopkins; sister, Sue Evans; and brothers, Ray Bearden, Joe Bearden, and Monroe Bearden, Jr.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Karen Matthews of Smyrna, TN; two grandchildren, Nick (Shannon) Matthews and Derek (Leslie) Matthews; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00a.m. at Lakewood South Memory Gardens with Pastor Bill Gardner officiating.

There will not be any visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
