HELEN MERTIS VICTIM OF FALL
Mrs Helen E Mertis, 82, of 492 Hazle Ave, Wilkes-Barre, died at her home Friday afternoon.

She fell down a flight of stairs from the kitchen to the cellar and was pronounced dead by the family physician, Dr Walter Kistler. Dr George Hudock, county coroner, was summoned and rules the death accidental due to a fractured skull.

A life resident of Wilkes-Barre, Mrs Mertis was born April 3, 1896. The former Helen Jacobs was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Her husband, Harry L died in 1973. She was a member of Parrish Street United Methodist Church and was active in it's women's societies.

Surviving are a son Harry J of Wilkes-Barre; brother William M Jacobs, at home; sisters Mrs Fannie Baker and Mrs Ethel Vargo, both of Wilkes-Barre; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday from the Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Rev Guy L Burt, pastor of Parrish Street Methodist Church will officiate and burial is in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
