William Herbert Tull was the third of nine children born in Brown County, Indiana to Levin Tull and his first wife Laurana Mathis. William was born in 1828. His siblings are: Lewis Jackson Tull, John Tull, Isaac Tull, Mary Ann (Polly) Tull, Martin V. Tull, Percilla Tull, Thomas Jefferson Tull, and James Madison Tull. Their mother died before 1846, in Indiana.

Levin married a second time to Lavina/Malvina Reynolds on 16 September 1846 in Brown County, Indiana. William gained 7 more siblings. His half brothers and sisters are: Sarah Jane Tull, Francis (Frank) Marion Tull, Eleven/Leven/Livingston Tull, Hannah E. Tull, Perry D. Tull, Lucinda (Lucy) Caroline Reynolds Tull(might be step sister) and William Reynolds (might be step-brother).

William Herbert Tull married 9 April 1851 in Brown County, Indiana to Elizabeth Mathis, also born in Indiana. To this union, eight children were born, the first four in Brown County, Indiana, and the last four in Harrison County, Missouri. Their children are:

Note to researchers: Lewis Jackson Tull, Percilla Tull, James Madison Tull and Thomas Jefferson Tull were all dead by 1850 Census and only the remaining five children survived to adulthood.
