Undated Obituary – Unknown Richland Center Newspaper (From family scrapbook)

Died in Southern California

Former Resident of Richland County Passes Away June 5th.

Robert Norman was born November 12th, 1838, of English parents in Upper Canada. He became a citizen of the United States through the naturalization of his father. On December 11th, 1867, he married Mary C. Stewart in Richland Center and six children were born to this union, three boys and three girls, of which one son, Lavern, and one daughter, Mrs. Stella Hall, remain, the wife having passed on thirteen years ago. In early married life both united with the Dunkard church and he has always held to that faith. For ten years he has lived in Los Angeles where he was dearly beloved by all his children, who of themselves gave him the name of the "candy man," for he always had candy in his hand and love in his heart for every child he met. The last three years he has spent in the Soldiers Home at Santell, California, and all who knew him will remember him as quiet, uncomplaining, kind and loving to all. He was a member of Co. F. until he entered the hospital December 12th, and passed away on June 5th. Burial was made in the Soldiers Home cemetery beside over five thousand of his comrades.

Correction: Soldiers Home is located at Sawtelle, CA. Buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery.
